Kayaking Adventures!

Over the weekend I took my first trip kayaking with a participant. We went to Billy's Bay at Wivenhoe Dam.

It was certainly a learning experience! For both of us, as I discovered they had mistaken canoeing for kayaking haha.

Once we're were out on the water though it was absolutely lovely and the temperature of the water was divine. I know this because we fell in. Oops.

Fortunately I had prepared for this possibility. We were wearing life jackets, my phone that I took this photo with was in a sealed water bag and I kept us close to shore. So when my participant found themselves trying to swim it was much easier when I told them their feet could touch the ground. Phew.

Regardless they got back out there and tried again! They had so much fun. We then rested with lunch and began the long drive home.

A fun day out that different from what you might experience through a traditional support worker. But here at craftalottle care we take creativity to the outdoors too!

P.s I learned the reason we fell in was that my lovely secondhand kayak was missing a plug! So water was getting in making us unbalanced. Plug has been replaced!
